Portrait of a man

Portrait of a Man, Micron Pen, 6.24.09

So somewhere on I found a video where Danny drew portraits upside down. Here it is, have a look... I found a random portrait on flickr for my subject. Drawing upside down allows you to try to forget the familiar facial features that you are used to looking at, and instead draw the shapes and lines that you see. I really enjoyed creating this.

  1. I remember similar exercises form Drawing with the Right Side of the really helps you look at what is there, doesn't it!? Excellent job with the drawing, love it!

  2. That's fabulous. I want to try this now. Thanks for the motivation.

  3. This is great. I have attempted some of these myself. I've only been brave enough to show about two, though. But, I think they are the best fun to do. You never know what they will look like until you turn them upside down - or is that the right way up?
